The Truth About Digestion

Eating Food and Digesting Food are Two Different Processes

Food and drink are one of the greatest influences on our overall health and vitality.  Most of us probably eat anywhere from three to six times a day, so what we put in our mouths becomes very important.  Food is our fuel; our source of energy and vitality.  In theory, high quality input should give you high quality output in the form of high energy, vitality, and health.  However, for many people eating the best foods often does not yield good health, because they have impaired digestion.

Often we forget that the digestion process is how we get energy from our food.  You can eat all “the best foods” or what many experts call the “ideal” diet, but if you cannot digest what you eat, your cells will not get what they need to produce the energy your body needs to function at optimum level.  Eating foods and digesting foods are two different processes, so just because you eat something does not necessarily mean you digest it.

The key question is how does your body handle what you eat?  If your body cannot digest the foods you are eating, those foods become toxic materials which your immune and detoxification systems must process.  You’ve probably heard the expression “you are what you eat”.  Now with what you know about the importance of digestion, it’s more accurate to say, “You are what you digest”.  Yet, how do you know if you are eating the rights foods for you?

When your body is not digesting your food, symptoms appear as red flags indicating that not all is well.  Unfortunately, billions of dollars are spent every year on pharmaceuticals to relieve heartburn, excess stomach acid, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, gas and other symptoms of indigestion without ever addressing the cause, which is a compromised digestive system.

Digestion - The Overlooked Key To Health

If You Have Digestive Problems, Read This.  It May be the Beginning of Your Road to Recovery!

If you’re like millions of other Americans, you may be frequently tired, and often just don’t have the energy to get through the day.  You may even be eating well, and taking vitamin supplements, but you still find that you just don’t have the energy to do all the things you want to do.  You may have even tried a number of other approaches that were unsuccessful.  One very important approach which you may not have considered is to improve your digestion - one of the essential, yet overlooked keys to good health.

Incomplete digestion of food creates an environment for overgrowth of “unfriendly” bacteria, and yeast in our bowels.  Food which is not completely digested actually begins to decompose and ferment in our intestines.  Over time the undigested food actually decomposes and rots.

Decomposing food creates toxicity in several different ways.  First, fermenting food produce up to 38 different toxic chemicals which our livers must process immediately.  In addition, decomposing food sets the stage for overgrowth of harmful bacteria and yeast, which in themselves produce highly toxic chemicals that the liver must work harder to process.

When a person has long term toxicity, not only is the liver compromised, but the lining of the gut becomes damaged, and undigested food particles can enter into our blood stream.  When this occurs, our immune systems are forced to fight off offending substances.  Eventually our immune system can become exhausted and serious disease can result.

Stop Treating the Symptoms and Treat the Real Cause of Digestive Problems

Many over the counter and prescription medications only mask the symptoms of digestive stress and never address the root of the problem. Antacids, while offering temporary relief from indigestion and acid reflux, actually perpetuate digestive problems by interfering with the digestion of proteins, which in turn fosters bowel toxicity.

Fortunately, you can get help now for chronic digestive problems at the Digestive Health Center.  A digestive evaluation by Dr. Patrick will help determine the types of foods that are giving you digestive stress, evaluate bowel toxicity, screen for yeast infection, evaluate selected mineral and vitamin levels, and identify if various organs are being stressed by a compromised digestive system.

The digestive evaluation is a three part approach which considers your symptoms, a physical exam, and a 24 hour urine analysis to identify your digestive stressors.  After all factors are analyzed, Dr. Patrick will tell you how you can improve your digestion by avoiding offending foods, and supplementing with digestive formulas which are prescribed based on your own specific chemistry.

If you are suffering from any of the above symptoms, help is available by calling Dr. Patrick at (530) 899-8741.
