Leaky Gut Syndrome

Leaky Gut Syndrome

Leaky Gut Syndrome, or Leaky Gut is a condition where the intestinal lining becomes inflamed and the tight junctions between intestinal cells become compromised. As the gut lining becomes inflamed the spaces between cells swell and allow incompletely digested foods, bacteria and viruses to enter into the body’s blood stream. When this foreign material begins to leak into the blood stream from a permeable intestinal lining, your immune system becomes activated. Essentially, each time that you ingest food, creates a flood of foreign material that the immune system reacts to. Over time people with Leaky Gut tend to experience increased sensitivity to more and more foods and increased intestinal distress. Another descriptive name for Leaky Gut is Intestinal Hyper Permeability Syndrome.
